1. Get Involved in Your Online Community and Social Media
Find local online forums and communities and participate regularly. Offer your expertise when applicable as well. Also, create local networks of friends on such social media outlets as Twitter and Facebook. Always include links to your website in everything you post.
2. Register on Google Places
Get your free listing on Google Places. Then you will start to come up in the Google Maps section, which will help your local visibility. Be sure to complete your listing fully, including business name, phone number, address and website address. Try to get your clients to put online reviews on your Google listing as well.
3. Network in Your Local Community
Join networking groups, support worthwhile local charity events, join your local chamber and even submit articles to local magazines/newspapers. These are all great ways to increase your presence and in turn your website traffic. This will also increase your relevance for local searches on search engines when your business is mentioned in these local events, articles, etc.
4. Don’t Only Focus on Google
Even though Google dominants internet search, you still want to have a strong presence on Yahoo Local and Bing Maps too. Be sure to create complete listings on both and include your website address.
5. Give Client's an Incentive to Write Positive Reviews
Reviews are playing a greater and greater role in search engine placement. Encourage, and even reward, your clients for taking the time to write a positive online review for you. Be sure to utilize all the different platforms for reviews, including Google, Yahoo, Bing, Facebook, Yelp, Kudzu and Merchant Circle.
